truncate(FILEHANDLE,LENGTH)

     truncate(EXPR,LENGTH)

             Truncates the file opened on FILEHANDLE, or named by
             EXPR,  to  the  specified  length.  Produces a fatal
             error if truncate isn't implemented on your system.
